Doctoral Student, Management, Harvard Business School; Co-founder, The Self-Management Institute
Paul Green, Jr. originally joined The Morning Star Company as a seasonal colleague in 1998. His experience building an early career within a self-managed company permanently shaped his view on building organizations designed to bring out the best in people, and when he left in 2002 to build his own business, he planted many of the ideas in his new venture.
He re-joined Morning Star in 2006 and has since devoted his efforts, almost entirely, to building the most efficient and effective organization possible. In 2008 he co-founded the Self-Management Institute, along with Chris Rufer and Doug Kirkpatrick, with the vision of building a competency of developing excellent organizations.
Paul enjoys academic research, and has partnered with research faculty at numerous US business schools on research aimed at expanding our understanding of human organizations. Paul has spoken to numerous academic and professional audiences from across the U.S. and around the World. He lives in Northern California with his wife, Shawna, and their three children.
The Morning Star Company is one of the world’s leading processors of tomatoes—and one of the most progressive models of a self-managed enterprise we’ve seen. In this Mashup session, Paul Green, the co-founder of the Self-Management Institute and, until recently, Morning Star’s head of development, describes the company’s extraordinary—and extraordinarily effective—approach to replacing manager-management with peer- and self-management.
